When its cold outside!  Temperatures are back to normal now out on island, the wind thankfully has let up today.  Should get interesting tomorrow.  The crowds are thinning out on the water, we’ll see how things shape up the next few days.

Santa arrives today!

For those of you who have not been on Nantucket for the Christmas stroll one of the highlights is Santa’s arrival on Straight Wharf via a Coast Guard cutter.  He and Mrs. Claus proceed up Main Street in a horse drawn carriage and then meet with the children.  My kids are looking forward to it.

Time to head back out!

Tomorrow starts another day of fishing for us.  Nantucket Bay Scallops can be commercially harvested Monday through Friday from 630am on.  So we are out on the water by 6, and hopefully in as soon as possible so we can shuck them and get them off to our customers.  At Nantucket Bay Scallop Company our goal is to have as few hands and steps involved in the process of getting scallops from the harbor to your table.

53 degrees!

The water temperature in and around Nantucket Sound is at least 5 degrees warmer than last year.  I went family scalloping yesterday in my 5mm wetsuit.  Felt toasty for an hour.  Made for a delicious Thanksgiving addition.  Here is a picture of the biggest scallop contest.  Nantucket residents (and non-residents) are allowed to catch Nantucket Bay Scallops from Oct. 1 to Mar 31.  There are 3 main ways to catch them, Use a pushrake, use a dop net and snorkeling/scuba.  Since it was so warm we chose to take a dip.

A puff of wind

Sustained 26mph with gusts up to 50.  Many boats went out and caught their quota.  Here is a pick of Spanky and his dog on a calmer day.

Gearing up for Thanksgiving

We’ll be shipping a lot of Nantucket Bay Scallops this week to arrive in time for Thanksgiving.  Weather is still cooperating, and now the tides are as well.  We overnight scallops to anywhere in the U.S.  Call today.  508 228 9200.  Here is Kona (The Nantucket Bay Scallop Company poster boy) throwing a test dredge today.

Nantucket Bay Scallops are fished by dayboat in the AM, immediately brought to a scallop shanty for shucking and then shipped directly to you.  We streamline the process cutting out several middlemen and time in between.  You can see and taste the difference.
